When I lived up in Pennsylvania I had a lot of these bushes all over the property. The flowers came in a various shades of rose and violet with some white. Before we moved down here I went out and took a lot of photos of the different color flowers. I thought I would like to start a series of painting them. I finally decided to get started. I picked the white one as my first since these were my favorite. I used various shades of blues and rose in the petals and then wet in wet for the bg. It is painted on 1/4 sheet of Arches 140 CP . Nora, I really like this sunny painting and how you created the background and the delicate highlights in the petals. Very nice! This flower will make a gorgeous series.
ReplyDeleteThis is very pretty, Nora. The wet in wet background technique always works so beautifully for various artists, I think, and you get such lovely depth and mystery with it. Thanks for showing me a "Rose of Sharon." I don't think I'd seen it before!
ReplyDeleteWhite is so hard to paint and you have pulled it off beautifully - the subtle colors in the petals are so lovely as is your soft pastel background. This is a lovely painting.

Rose of Sharon is one of my favorites - our bush blooms every year, and has 3 different color flowers in it. You handled the white beautifully and love the pastel background.
